Opus XVIII – Architectonic Mosaic
“Opus XVIII – Architectonic Mosaic” is a large-scale abstract work that bridges painting, design and architecture. On a 70 × 100 cm canvas, a deep black ground sets the stage for a luminous grid of ninety-six individual rectangles, each with its own relief pattern and internal rhythm. The surface is built with textured layers and violet modeling paste, then finished with a carefully balanced palette of metallic bronze, copper and silver, with selective touches of white that catch the light.
Viewed from a distance, the composition reads as a single architectonic panel – a contemporary mosaic or decorative wall element that appears to float against its dark background. Up close, the viewer discovers a multitude of details: subtle variations in texture, shifts in metallic tones, and small differences between each segment that create a quiet sense of movement and energy.
This work belongs to Sotiris’ ongoing Opus series, where geometric structure and intuitive mark-making coexist. “Architectonic Mosaic” reflects the artist’s fascination with order and repetition, while preserving a human, hand-crafted presence in every line and surface. It is conceived as a statement piece for modern interiors – a work that can anchor a room and invite repeated viewing over time.

– Opus XVIII – Architectonic Mosaic
– Acrylic and modeling paste on canvas
– 70 × 100 cm (27.6 × 39.4 in)
