Opus XXIII – Hellenic Aegis
Opus XXIII – Hellenic Aegis is a powerful abstract composition inspired by the form and symbolism of an ancient Greek shield, reimagined through a contemporary cosmic language. Built on an 80 x 120 cm canvas, the work begins with a deep black foundation of gesso and acrylic, creating a dramatic field of depth and contrast. From this darkness, six circular forms emerge as a structured visual rhythm, guiding the eye through layers of balance, energy, and symbolic order.
At the center of the painting, a sculptural motif formed with modeling paste creates a tactile emblem of strength and presence. Around it, subtle variations of texture and metallic color build a sense of hidden movement and inner light. Copper, ivory, silver, dark blue, and turquoise-green metallic accents appear across the composition, while sponge-applied nebulous passages and spatula marks add both softness and force. The Ultramarine Blue brushwork along the sides expands the atmosphere beyond the canvas, giving the work a feeling of continuity and space.
Hellenic Aegis is more than a painting of circles and texture. It is a symbolic object, a visual shield, and a contemporary relic of memory and energy. It reflects the dialogue between protection and radiance, structure and mystery, ancient heritage and modern abstraction.
